Everything we do

Eight things, all of them about how a room feels

We are residential only, on purpose. No commercial rooftops, no new construction tract work. Houses, in this city, with the particular problems that houses in this city have.

Heating

Six months of the year, and the half of the job with a safety component.

Furnace repair

It stopped in the night and the house is going the wrong way. We can usually be there the same day.

About furnace repair

Same day, seven days, all winter. Price agreed before we start.

Furnace installation

A furnace sized for your actual house, not the one that happened to be there before.

About new furnace

Every replacement starts with a Manual J. Never the old nameplate.

Cold-climate heat pumps

They really do work here. The honest part is what happens on the coldest ten nights.

About heat pumps

We size the balance point with you, and say when it is the wrong call.

Cooling and zoning

Eleven weeks that matter, plus every room that has never behaved.

Air conditioning

Eleven weeks of the year matter enormously. Upstairs should not be the room nobody sleeps in.

About air conditioning

Upstairs heat is usually airflow, not tonnage. We check that first.

Ductless mini splits

For the addition, the attic bedroom, the porch that became an office. One room, its own dial.

About mini splits

That room gets its own thermostat. Usually the whole reason people call.

Air, moisture and upkeep

The parts of comfort that are not temperature at all.

Indoor air quality

A tight Minnesota house holds warmth beautifully. It also holds everything else.

About air quality

Filtration, ventilation and source control are three different jobs.

Whole-home humidification

Static shocks, split lips, gaps in the floorboards. January air here is drier than most deserts.

About humidifiers

The setting matters more than the machine. Too much frosts your windows.

Comfort plans

Two visits a year, in the two months that decide whether your winter goes well.

About comfort plans

Members go to the front of the queue on a no-heat call in January.

How a job goes, whichever one it is

The sequence is the same for a flame sensor and for a whole system replacement. Only the length changes.

  1. You tell us what is wrong in your own words

Not a diagnosis. Which room, what it does, when it started, what the thermostat says. That is genuinely all we need to get somebody moving.

  2. We measure before we opine

Static pressure, temperature rise, combustion, charge, room by room temperatures. Numbers first, because opinions in this trade are cheap and numbers are not.

  3. You get a price and a choice

A number for the fix, and where it is a genuine decision, a number for the alternative beside it. You choose. Nothing else happens until you do.

  4. We leave it tidier than we found it

Floor protection down, boots off, old parts hauled away, and the readings written down and left with you.

Come in out of the cold

Tell us which room is wrong and when you are home. We will come and look, and we will tell you the price before anything gets opened up.
